This online edition of "Atlas of Diseases of the Kidney" series edited by Robert W. Schrier, Professor of Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine, is made available on the Web by the ISN Informatics Commission and NKF cyberNephrology. This atlas published by Current Medicine, Inc and Blackwell Science is a five volume series containing 67 chapters with more than 2500 images, schematics, tables and algorithms. Volume headings
include disorders of water, electrolytes and acid-base, and acute renal failure; glomerulonephritis and vasculitis and tubulointerstitial disease; hypertension and the kidney; systemic diseases and the kidney; and dialysis and transplantation as a treatment of end-stage renal disease. This publication is aimed at nephrologists, transplant surgeons and hypertension specialists. |

This site is "the result of collaboration between health care professionals, experts in information technology and multimedia, specialist health care writers, and people with renal failure, their families and carers". It has been made possible by a grant from the Wellcome Trust's Science on Stage and Screen awards and it has a definite UK
focus. There is information available on the physical aspects of kidney failure, treatment of kidney failure as well as the emotional and financial consequences surrounding kidney disease. There are also links to UK based support groups and a bulletin board where questions or messages can be posted. The animation available on the site requires the Flash plugin which can be downloaded for free. |

Membership details and an online application form are provided as are details of corporate members of the Association. The Renal Association's aims are "to advance, collate and disseminate knowledge of renal structure and function, to seek means for the prevention and treatment of renal disorders, and to deal with any matters
concerning the welfare of patients with renal diseases and the organisation of services for their relief".
